Ever Queer on Campus? Help!

As a collaborative partner with Tulane University’s Service Learning Program, the Archives Project is currently working with a documentary film class which is a producing a short documentary on the history of queer activism / visibility at Tulane University. Interview subjects are needed. If you were a queer student Tulane University during the last 60 years and would like to help bring this project to fruition, please contact Professor Wolf at jwolfe@tulane.edu The documentary film will eventually be posted on the Archives Project website.

The Archives Project had a presence at the National LGBTQ Task Force’s annual Creating Change Conference, which was held last week at the Riverside Hilton in New Orleans. In addition to having a display table in the conference exhibit hall, Archives Project Executive Director Frank Perez spoke at a plenary session on the history of civil rights in New Orleans. Board President Kathleen Conlon and Secretary Jim Meadows also attended the conference as volunteers.

Misc

Although we are sad at the recent passing of Gay Carnival pioneer and legendary bar owner, Lou “Lucille” Bernard, we are happy to be assisting his estate in processing and finding a permanent home for a vast video collection he left behind. Bernard was a member of the Krewe of Ganymede (1968—1974) and later founded the Krewe of Olympus (1971—1991). In 1979, Bernard and his partner, Nick Donovan, opened a bar in the French Quarter at 626 St. Philip Street called Lucille’s & Friend. The bar was very popular, especially among the French Quarter’s theatre crowd. In later years, Bernard also managed the Golden Lantern.
