Spring Social: A Queer Walking Tour of the French Quarter
Archives Project Members are welcome to join us on Saturday May 18 at 1:00pm for a complimentary and leisurely sashay through the French Quarter’s queer history. Archives Project Vice President and tour guide Guy LaMothe will lead this entertaining and informative tour. The tour ends at a bar for drinks, food, and socializing. New Orleans AIDS Memory Project
The history of HIV/AIDS is not a happy topic, but it is an important one. By remembering, we honor those we lost. Our programming focus this year is the history of HIV/AIDS in New Orleans. The New Orleans AIDS Memory Project (NOAMP) will consist of a series of monthly programming events from June through December as well as a historical exhibition opening in October and running through March 2025. Details about the exhibit will be announced later but for now, save these dates for the monthly events:
- June 6—Annual Membership Meeting / NOAMP Launch (Dodwell House)
- July 11—Living through the Crisis: A Human Library of People on the Front Lines (Dodwell House)
- August 8—Panel Discussion on Medical and Service Providers (Dodwell House)
- September 12—Public Lecture / Southern Decadence Grand Marshals Lost to AIDS Memorial (Dodwell House)
- October (tba)—Exhibit Opening (Dodwell House)
- October 10—Panel Discussion on Activism and the Role Women Played in the Crisis (Dodwell House)
- November 7—Documentary Film Screening of From Where We Stood: AIDS and the Culture Wars (Prytania Theatre at Canal Place)
- December 1—World AIDS Day (tba)
The Dodwell House is located at 1519 Esplanade Ave. Parking will be available in the lot across the street at the corner of Esplanade and Claiborne Avenues.

Organization of American Historians Conference
The Archives Project had a presence at the Organization of American Historians conference, which was recently held in New Orleans. Executive Director Frank Perez (pictured on the left in the photograph above) participated in a Panel Discussion titled, “Y’all Means All: Doing Queer Southern History Now.” Historians and graduate students from around the nation were in attendance and learned about the important work the Archives Project is doing.
