The AIDS Quilt in New Orleans

Mark your calendars for the last event in our ongoing series, the New Orleans AIDS Memory Project. On December 1, World AIDS Day, panels from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display in New Orleans at the Dodwell House from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. In addition to the quilt, the event features two other inspiring exhibits—“Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes,” and “Never Silent.” These two exhibits are on loan to the Archives Project from the Stonewall National Museum, Library, and Archives. The Dodwell House is located at 1519 Esplanade Ave. This event is free and open to the public. More information may be found here.

Letters Read

In partnership with the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana, Letters Read is producing four, incubator-style, mini-podcasts on early HIV / AIDS awareness and activism in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the country at large. These podcasts are being produced in conjunction with the New Orleans AIDS Memory project. Letters Read is an ongoing series in which local performers interpret letters and written documents about culturally vital individuals from various times and Louisiana communities—focusing on New Orleans. You can listen to the podcasts here.

National Endowment for the Humanities Officials Visit NOAMP Exhibit

Archives Project Executive Director Frank Perez recently met with the Senior Deputy Chair of the National Endowment of the Humanities (Anthony Mitchell) and officials from the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities. Mitchell was in town for a few days and wanted to learn about the Archives Project. He had heard about our NOAMP exhibit and wanted to see it. He, and the others, were duly impressed. Pictured above are Erin Voisin, Miranda Restovic, Frank Perez, Anthony Mitchell, Chris Robert, and Dannel Perry.

South Eastern Museum Conference

The Archives Project had a presence at the South Eastern Museum Conference, which was recently held in Baton Rouge. AP board member Robert Ticknor and executive director Frank Perez spoke about collecting and expanding LGBTQ+ materials in museums. Board member Eileen Tomczuk spoke about the use of AI in museum work.

A Thanksgiving Message

As we enter the holiday season, the Archives Project wishes to thank all its supporters, sponsors, and sustaining members. Without your support, we would not be able to do the important work of getting our history out of the closet. Thank You!
