Carl Schlegel Historical Marker
The Archives Project was proud to have recently installed a historical marker honoring the Rev. Carl Schlegel, the earliest known public advocate for LGBT+ rights in the U.S. Schlegel immigrated to the United States from Germany in the late 19th century. He became pastor of the Second German Presbyterian Church in New Orleans in 1905 but was forced to resign in 1907 because of his advocacy for LGBTQ+ people. The marker is located on St. Bernard Ave. at N. Claiborne in New Orleans.

Annual Meeting / Sapphic Fleur de Lez
Our Annual Meeting and Sapphic Fleur de Lez programs were a huge success. Both meetings were well attended and well received. Our existing officers and board members were reelected by acclamation at the annual meeting and the annual Stewart Butler / Alfred Doolittle Award for Contributions to Queer History was awarded to Sharon Dauzat. The Saturday symposium drew over 100 attendees. Thanks to The Historic New Orleans Collection for hosting us at the Williams Research Center. Special shoutout to Dhani Adomaitis and her team for helping pull this event together.

Volunteer of the Month
Our volunteer of the month is Randy Bibb. Randy is a long-time supporter of the Archives Project and a fixture the New Orleans tour guide community. In addition to staffing the new exhibit space at 311 Burgundy, he also leads one of the queer history tours we offer every weekend. Originally from St. Louis, Randy has lived in New Orleans for over forty years. We appreciate Randy and all he does for the Archives Project.
